A skill and empowerment development programme – in the face of distressed migration, unemployment, haphazard urbanisation, environmental challenges, weaving offers us a one-stop solution to address most of these issues.
Project ‘New Chance’ is a skill development program to economically empower women through weaving. At a time when the world is facing the problem of distressed migration, unemployment, haphazard urbanisation, weaving offers us a one-stop solution to address most of these issues. Handloom weaving is the most organic way of producing cloth and is carbon neutral. Women trained in weaving could work from their home and be economically empowered. Thus, providing opportunities for rural women could address the problem of distressed migration and promote sustainable rural development. The participants of this program could also be women prisoners, women from economically and socially weaker sections of society looking for employment opportunities to lead a dignified life.
